More Good News!

That's right, the good news just keeps coming. I heard back from two local stations today. I'm visiting one of them this Wed. and the other next Tuesday. The station I am seeing this week isn't currently hiring, but it's a chance for me to show my face and meet some of the news team. The station I am meeting with next week is a little more promising. The news director is looking to fill a position that will open in June. I will be sure to let everyone know how things evolve.

A Prayer Answered (half-way)

I have a job interview! I received a call today from a news director in Louisville, KY. He really enjoyed my cover letter and was impressed with my resume. He made me laugh a bit when he said I'd done a lot for just graduating in '06. I had to remind him that I graduated in May of '08! We talked for a bit and he invited me down for an interview Thursday. I don't want to get too excited, but at least it is something. Someone opened my big envelope, read my resume/documents and watched my tape then felt impressed enough to call. Not to mention, it's only about an hour and a half from home. I don't need a plane ticket to get there ;) Keep your fingers crossed for me. Now if only the weather would improve from gloom and rain to sunshine...

It's Madness...

...in the George household. Xavier won again to make it to the sweet 16 and my dad couldn't be more excited. Friday night he had his mini Musketeer bobble head key chain out. My parents had friends over today to watch the game and he had his blue and white blanket, "X" banner, and golden duck out. Yes, that is a lawn duck wearing a Xavier jersey. (I should probably add that one of my dad's friends found the duck in his garage. He surprised my dad before a golf tournament by placing the duck on the top of their golf cart. Of course my dad thought it was great because he could spot his cart from anywhere on the course!) It's now his little mascot.

I tried to be supportive wearing a blue shirt with "Indiana" on it and he wasn't too happy. O well, it obviously didn't effect the team :) Besides basketball, life has been great. I am still catching up with friends, working at the doctor's office and babysitting here and there. I love the Spring weather and hope it continues to stay in the 60's or 70's. The other night I saw "Bedtime Stories" with a friend. It was pretty cute. Both of us were laughing a lot. It was a good lighthearted movie.

On a more serious note, I got an email update from one of my coworkers in WA. She too was laid off with me and recently was hired at a station in Spokane along with one of our sports guys. The two of them are facing layoffs again. Right now, they are safe, but they learned that the company that owns their station (and about 10 others) is planning to lay off 150 people. It sucks. I had actually planned to interview at that same station before I decided to move home and canceled the interview. I am keeping the two of them in prayers for the next couple of weeks. They should know by April 1st.

I can't end on a negative note so here's a fun fact... One of my best friends is in LA right now visiting her boyfriend and she spotted Fergie at the mall. Unfortunately, she wasn't with her hunky boyfriend, but still it's cool to say you saw a celebrity. I normally end up seeing an old teacher or neighbor when I'm out.

The good, the bad, the fantastic

The title pretty much sums up my weekend. I took Friday off in an attempt to get some things done that I'd rather not do on the weekend: get my OH license, new plates and an OH title. That's where the bad comes in. I thought I did my part in researching online where I could take care of all three things in one place. I even woke up early Friday so I could be the first in line. License agencies here are always a nightmare. Well, as it turns out the OH BMV website is way outdated! The agency I went to told me I had to take a knowledge test and had to go to another location to do it (although the website says if you have a valid out of state license the test is waved). Not only that, the title office that was suppose to be at this first location apparently closed a couple of months ago so I couldn't take care of that task either. The only thing this agency could do for me was inspect my car and provide me with a OH Rules of the Road Driving book to study. Frustrated beyond belief, I drove to another location to take my test, change my title, get my plates and receive a new license. I did FINALLY get everything done, however, it took a little over 3 HOURS to complete! Seriously, I do not understand why the process of becoming an OH resident has to be so complicated and tedious. It was just my luck too that the laminating machine for the license pictures was having problems and burning a card that was stuck inside right before it was due to print mine.
My weekend did improve. I couldn't ask for better weather. It was so beautiful Friday and Saturday. I did some hiking outside Saturday with some friends and later that night I saw the musical Mama Mia on stage. It was FANTASTIC! I've never seen the movie, so this was my first encounter with the show. I've had the songs in my head since then. If you ever get the chance to see it, I highly encourage you to.
This week is off to a good start. The nurse at the office I am working at passed my resume along to her son-in-law this weekend. While we were at work today he sent her a text message that she let me read. I'm under the impression that the news director was impressed and excited to see a resume for a producer position. (Most broadcast majors want to be on TV not behind the scenes.) So... keep your fingers crossed. It would be awfully nice to work right here in Cincinnati. Who knows what will happen, but it's a step in the right direction. I can honestly say that after this weekend (maybe it was the amazing weather) I am feeling the most content and relaxed I have felt in a very long time. It truly is a great feeling. I hope everyone else is enjoying themselves as well.

Back to blogging...

The days seem to slip away so quickly these past couple of weeks. I think in part because I think of my job as a part time job instead of a temporary one - but realistically I am working ALL day. I'm definitely not complaining because I really am enjoying myself and the people at the office are great. I just tend to plan way to much into 24 hours and wonder why I'm exhausted at the end of the day. I'm not sure how much I mentioned about the job, but I am working at the Cincinnati Breast Surgeons office. The group just moved into a new building and acquired some new patients. The front desk is also a little short staffed right now because one of the receptionists blew out her knee and hasn't been in to work. The two ladies working right now are wonderful. They are enjoying my help and were asking the office manager last week how long I was going to be with them and then if they could "keep me". haha I suppose that is a good sign. Quick story... There is a sign in sheet at the front desk and the other day a new patient hesitated and said she wasn't sure she wanted to sign in. Apparently, the person who created the sheet messed up and typed Cincinnati Beast Surgeons - woops! When it was brought to her attention, she laughed and said she did the same thing to the web site! ahah too funny. That just proves you can't always count on spell check. As I think I've mentioned, most of my time is spent in a little room i like to call my closet scanning and sorting charts. Well, the other day I was out behind the front desk working with all of the charts in the filling cabinets rearranging and organizing. A patient was talking to the receptionists about scheduling her next appointment and it finally dawned on me where exactly I was working. Although she had a scarf around her head I could tell she was completely bald. She's obviously a fighter and had a good spirit at the time, but it must be hard for the nurses and surgeons having to give the bad news to patients that they have cancer. I am extremely grateful right now that I do have my health. As crazy as the economy and job market is, I am healthy, my immediate family is healthy. I am definitely praying and thinking of those that aren't as lucky.

I don't want to end this on a somber note, so I will leave you with two things... One, a co-worker in WA reminded me that next time I have an interview I can say I've been working for CBS and two, the family with the Fun Dip loving dog did call for me to babysit again.
