Babysitting gone BAD

I just have to blog about this because one of my best friends and her husband are blogging about taking their dog to charm school and how well the little pup is doing (Yes, I'm talking about you Becky and JR).
So, I was babysitting two little kids this evening. I think they are 3 and 4, but that's besides the point. I was upstairs attempting to get them into their pajamas when I heard a loud noise downstairs like something fell. I ignored it for the time being because I needed to get the kids semi-ready for bed and I figured no one could be hurt because I was with them. I ended up running downstairs about 15 minutes later because the phone rang. It turned out to be a wrong number, but thank heavens I did because I found the dog sitting on the cream carpet in the living room feasting on BRIGHT BLUE Fun Dip. It seems as though the noise I had heard was the dog jumping up on the counter to where the Valentine's Day candy was sitting and got a hold of some granola bars, candy and the colorful Fun Dip powder. I did my best to clean the bright blue circle (the size of a dinner plate) out of the carpet, but it definitely left a stain. Luckily, the mom didn't seem to be phased by the story. We'll see if I'm asked to sit again. And just when I thought I was done with candy for a while...

In case you are interested

I hope everyone is having a great week and if you were off yesterday for President's Day a wonderful shortened week. I don't have too much to share so far. I did start my new job at the doctor's office (a group of female breast surgeons). The work is pretty harmless. I find certain patient's files, sort through keeping only the last 10 years and then scan the paper's into the computer. The group of surgeons just bought a colleagues practice so this is their way of acquiring the paperwork they need. In that case, I sit at my little desk sorting and scanning while listening to my iPod - I told you it is harmless.

My main reason for blogging now is to share a link with you. Most of you know my issue(s) with food including the ever so popular wheat. I found this article/blog/ earlier today and thought I'd share it. I thought it might give a little insight into my no wheat diet when the health world is pressing whole grains. Another interesting link I found while reading the article is about whether or not gluten free is the way to be. I've become super intrigued with diet and to body since my troubles started 3 or so years ago. If it's not your cup of tea, then just ignore this post, but I'm always looking to share and or help things make a bit more sense.

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I will be spending the evening with some girl friends.

Yesterday was my last day at Sweets in Bloom. It was actually a bit strange to leave at the end of the day.

(I am going to miss reading the jokes on the Laffy Taffy wrappers:
How do you make an orange laugh....?? Tickle it's navel!!
What do you call a lazy kangaroo.....?? A pouch potato!!
Why did the strawberry cross the road....?? Her mom was stuck in a jam!!)

Luckily it wasn't too busy for us. Most of the confusion and chaos was in the flower department. Those workers were planning on being there until 11pm or so to get all of the flowers out for delivery. The lady in charge did tell me that if things fell through with my next job to give her a call to continue temping for another couple of weeks or so. I'm just going to wait and see what the future brings. Has anyone seen the movie "Monster in Law" with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda? Well, if you have, I feel like Lopez who is a temp and takes on a different job every couple of weeks. I may be unemployed, but I am keeping busy :)

ps. I did get a going away present. They gave me one of the bouquets I helped make. As a nice sister, I gave it to my little brother whose girlfriend has always wanted one. I hope she's not reading this ;)

Burnt fingers

Yes, that's right half of my fingers are wrapped in band-aids from being tortured by the hot glue guns at work. I hope everyone enjoys their Valentine's Day goodie baskets as I continue the rest of my life without fingerprints ;) Yes, work is getting crazy. Just the other day I came home, slid right into bed and slept from 5:30pm-6:30am! Boy was it nice! It was extremely tense today. Stress levels are through the roof and I thought one woman was going to walk out. I overheard another worker tell the other temp to plan on staying until 10pm tomorrow! Yikes! O well, it's a good life lesson/experience. Only a couple more days.

Monday I'm going to begin working at a doctor's office. My neighbor is a plastic surgeon and she called last night asking if I was interested in doing some office work part-time. I've helped her out before and figured why not. Really, it's a win-win situation for the both of us.

On a side note, the weather here is crazy! It was raining like crazy and now the wind is out of control. I'm cracking up right now because my dad is trying to watch the Xavier basketball game and the TV keeps going in and out. At a big moment in the game it (and the rest of our power) completely shut off and had to restart. He immediately put on his head set to listen to the radio. The TV is back on now but Xavier is losing by 14 and he's not a happy camper.

I hope everyone is staying dry. I will keep you posted on my adventures of job hunting.

Catching my breath

Wow - I have been the worst updater since being back home. I don't know if it's because I don't have crazy news room stories to share or what, but I need to pick up the slack.
This is my last week at the florist shop making candy bouquets. After Friday I will be back at the job hunt with full force. I had planned to send out quite a few resumes tomorrow, but I just haven't had the energy or concentration to do so. This week was mentally and emotionally draining. It's just been nonstop all week between work and babysitting that I haven't had a lot of time to breathe. I'm so blessed to have my parents around and such wonderful friends who are only a phone call away. I talked to my older brother, Matt, for the first time today since he left to finish his last quarter at OU. He's enjoying his classes and looking forward to being done with school and graduating. His major is auto-music production.
I can't believe how fast January came and went. It's going to be Easter before I know it.
I am definitely looking forward to spring weather. Yesterday and today were wonderful! I can't believe the temperature reached the 50's after the snow we got on Tues. It's practically all gone. I love the look of snow, but I've realized that it doesn't offer me the same benefits anymore... snow days. It's not as easy to miss a day of work as it is to have class canceled. Plus, if I stay in the news business, I will NEVER see another snow day again! I guess that is the price of growing up.
I am going to try and actually be productive for a couple of hours and get some laundry done. If you are curious as to what the candy bouquets are that I am helping to make you can see pictures of them at the company's web site www.sweetsinbloom.com

ps. I watched a little girl today (about 8 years old) and she asked me what the age limit was for having your first kiss. I told her I didn't know if OH had a designated age. She told me she heard it was 18 where she use to live :)

Winter Wonderland

I am sure most of you reading this experienced a "winter wonderland" this week. I can't believe how much ice accumulated. It was practically blinding yesterday with the sun shining on all of the tree branches. I did venture out with my parents Tuesday night to go to the XU game. We only have two seats so I bought a ticket and sat in one of the seats next to them. That couple has four seats in another section and hasn't used their seats next to my parents in over a year. Just our luck, the couple brings their daughters to the game. Luckily, there were a couple empty seats around ours that I was able to sit in.

I started working this week despite the nasty weather. I did get the job working as a temp for Jones the Florist in the Sweets in Bloom department. I'm helping to make candy bouquets until Valentine's Day. It's not hard work, but it's killer on my hands; twisting and tieing, gluing and taping things all day. I guess it could be worse. It's not like I'm doing the work forever and it will help pay some of my bills. My mom also ripped something out of the job section of the paper today for another temporary job. The position is reading student's essays for different tests such as the SAT. It doesn't start until March. I'd like to think that I will have a job by then, but just in case I am going to look into it. I figure it's probably more beneficial to do editing and writing work than it is to work at a restaurant or clothing store.

Also this week, my dad turned the big 5-0!! Woohoo. It was fun to be home for that. I had no idea what to get him so I baked him a cake instead.
He thoroughly enjoyed his singing card. His chocolate cake with Xavier colors (blue/white). Yes, I did that on purpose.
